December 2017 – art work

Artist biography: –

Originally from Kansas, Katie Tunison graduated from Baylor University in 2003 with a degree in Biology. Currently, she spends her days in a laboratory working with genes and cells at UT Southwestern.

Outside of work however, to satisfy the creative streak she’s had since childhood, she has spent the last 10 years working in stained glass. Other than a couple of classes, Katie is self-taught and has developed many of her techniques simply through experimentation and practice.  She enjoys the calm and relaxation that working on a stained glass piece can bring.

Snowflake designs are a particular favorite as the shapes and colors can be as varied as real snowflakes.  Additionally, the incorporation of beveled pieces allows them to sparkle in the sunlight, just like real snow. However, Katie enjoys working on larger pieces as well; her largest piece to date was a custom window approximately 2’ x 4’.
